Australian Alpaca Association 2020 Show

Alpacas produce luxurious fleece that can be processed into a range of different products. From socks to suits, Doona’s to carpet. These eco-friendly animals are suited to small lifestyle blocks as well as large broad-acre farms. Their soft padded feet, communal dung piles, low water intake and gentle grazing nature make them very low impact on the land.

Our members offer friendly, personalised service to prospective alpaca owners whether you are looking for pets, lawn mowers, herd guards or breeding stock. Alpaca owners are passionate about their animals and have a wealth of information to share. Giving you an insight into all their needs including husbandry, breeding and fencing requirements. Offering you the opportunity to inspect hundreds of alpaca’s on-farm. Our members also provide ongoing management support and agistment in some areas.

Friday 8th starting 9 am

Fleece Competition: The Judge will examine fleeces from both Suri and Huacaya Alpacas with an array of different colours to pick the top Fleeces of the competition.

Young Paraders Competition: This is designed specifically and exclusively for young people between 7 and under 22 years of age. They can showcase their expertise and knowledge in handling alpacas and to promote integrity between competitors, handlers and their animals.

There are two sections of the competition:

  • Showmanship section: Show Ringcraft and Proficiencies - Demonstrates the handler’s proficiency in preparation, presentation, handling and understanding of their alpaca.

  • Stockmanship section: Demonstrates the handler’s skills and sound working relationship with their alpaca, taking them over a series of challenges on a set course.

Young Judges Competition: This competition is to encourage and develop interest and involvement in alpacas by young people between 15 and 25 years of age. They Judge 4 fleeces/animals and give an overall oral presentation, then awarding the fleece/alpacas a placing between 1st and 4th to an AAA accredited Overjudge.

We have two highly qualified Judges coming from Victoria and South Australia to talk about alpacas and judge our Fleece, Alpacas, Young Judges and Young Paraders.
